Library to break ground Saturday

Community invited to attend festivities

Supporters, patrons and local leaders will gather in the courtyard at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public at 3 p.m. Saturday to celebrate groundbreaking for the library's expansion program.

The ceremony will mark the official beginning of the library's $2.65 million construction program. Voters last year approved a $2.6 million bond to pay for the work.

"I hope a lot of people will come to support us," library Director Agnes Ho. "I know it's summertime and people go to the beach, but they can go to the beach any time. Just come Saturday!"

Boy Scout Troop 585 will present the colors for the ceremony and a mother-daughter team will sing The National Anthem. Speakers will include Kinston Mayor "Buddy" Ritch, Lenoir County Board of Commissioners Chairman George Graham, Kinston-Lenoir County Library Board Chairman Allen Mewborn Jr., and Friends of the Library Vice President Carol Southerland.

The brief ceremony will conclude with a reception in the library's research area and will offer live music and light refreshments. Special activities will be provided for children in the Children's Room.

The library will be closed Saturday except for groundbreaking activities.
