Julia Weeks of Goldsboro receives her diploma from
Josie Graves
Thirteen future auctioneers received their diplomas Monday night when they successfully completed the Lenoir Community College Auctioneering Program.

Auctioneer Josie Graves has been the class instructor for 34 years and the LCC program is one of only two in North Carolina.

The 12-week program is offered three times during the academic year and graduates are eligible to take the state licensing exam and receive their auction licenses.
Students entering the program are exposed to all facets of auctioneering. In addition to learning the technique of auctioneering and developing bid calling styles, students hear guest speakers talk about a variety of fields - from antiques to livestock to estate sales.

During the course students have the opportunity to practice at nearby auction houses. At the end of session, a graduation auction is open to the public. Students bring their own items to auction and keep any proceeds generated by the sale.

Another highlight of the session is the graduation party held at the home of instructor Josie Graves.

The winter auctioneering class will begin on Tuesday Jan. 3, 2006 and run through the end of March. The spring class begins April 4, 2006. The class meets from 6- 9 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays at the Aviation Center at the Global Transpark. Additional information can be obtained by calling the college at 527-6223.
