Pride of Kinston was honored Tuesday by North Carolina State University for its partnership with the NCSU College of Design to develop a plan for Kinston’s stretch of the Neuse River. A proposed plan for riverfront development, crafted over past several months by students in the College of Design, will be unveiled here on May 5.
NCSU’s Office of Extension, Engagement and Economic Development gave the “Local Government Engagement Partnership Award” to Pride at the conclusion of a day-long seminar highlighting the university’s participation in volunteer activities and community economic development programs. The award was “given in recognition of visionary leadership and modeling mutually beneficial relationships with community and higher education partners.”
A special 22-member Kinston’s Waterfront-Now! task force, co-chaired by Kinston businessman Tommy Pressly and Dr. Lyn Turner, is heading up the Pride initiative. Pressly was joined by Pride Director Adrian King, Pride board member Tommy Lee, Lenoir County Extension director Tammy Kelly, and task force member John Shimer III to receive the Partnership Award, presented by James Zuiches, NCSU vice chancellor for Extension, Engagement and Economic Development during an awards banquet Tuesday in Raleigh. |
